Opinions exchanged regarding UNFPA projects

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Members of Parliament N.Oyundari, B.Saranchimeg, B.Undarmaa met UNFPA Mongolia Country Representative Naomi Kitahara on January 16.

MP N.Oyundari started off the meeting by presenting objectives and cooperation proposals to be discussed. A joint working group comprised of members of Standing Committees on Legal and Social Policy, Education, Culture and Science worked in Dornogovi and Tuv provinces, Songinokhairkhan and Bayanzurkh districts to monitor and review implementation of laws on domestic violence, crime prevention, child rights and child protection. Additionally, they got acquainted with operations of Child Protection Center and National Institute of Forensic Science. The MPs expressed the working group’s interest to cooperate with UNFPA in 2018 .

Ms. Kitahara thanked the MPs and introduced UNFPA’s 2018 plan for collaboration with the Standing Committee on Social Policy, Education, Culture and Science.

“UNFPA in partnership with Swiss Development Cooperation is currently implementing a project Combating Gender based Violence. Within the framework we conducted surveys and now we are working on building One-stop service centers for victims in three districts and seven provinces where violence occur the most according to our survey result. Previously we have built the service centers in Bayankhongor, Gobi-Altay and Zavkhan aimags, and now we are expanding based on that experience”, said Ms Kitahara.

The purpose of the centers is to provide all necessary services for each case of violence with assistance from health, social care, police, legal and education experts.

The meeting concluded after discussions on UNFPA projects and future cooperation prospects.
