Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The ‘Khurel Altan Dush’ epic was fully performed at the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum yesterday.

The epic was performed by A.Baldandorj, the 9th generation of epicteller, who noted that “In the era of globalization and technological development, we are facing the danger of extinction of Mongolian epic poems. Therefore, in order to avoid the loss of this great heritage I’m performing the epic poem and the recorded tape will be preserved in the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum Archive and National Center of Cultural Heritage.”

The ‘Bronze Gold Anvil' epic is the last one to be performed in this year’s epic season at the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum. In ancient times Mongolians had performed the heroic epics only during the winter months. The Mongolian people used to believe that telling the ‘Bronze Gold Anvil’ epic keeps away the evil and blesses the infants and the elders. This epic is shorter compared to the great epics and is in the category of miniature epics and lasts for 5 hours.

The Mongolian epics were inscribed on the UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding in 2009. For the fact that it was proclaimed as heritage in need of urgent safeguarding, the National Center of Cultural Heritage and the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum are developing the ‘Mongol tuuli’ program. Since 2014, 13 epics were performed at the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum and recorded under the program.
