NEMA discusses preparations for Asian Ministerial Conference

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Government seeks to cooperate with foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations in Mongolia on hosting of the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in July 16-19 in Ulaanbaatar.

Mongolia is currently preparing for the regional conference, which will be co-organized with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).

Within the scope of pre-conference arrangements, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) organized a meeting on February 21 with representatives of the foreign diplomatic missions, international organizations and non-government organizations to exchange views.

The meeting was attended representatives from more than 50 organizations including the Embassies of the United States, Australia, China, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, Cuba, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Laos, Vietnam and Kazakhstan and the United Nations Office, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Children’s Fund, the International Organization for Migration, the World Health Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, the Korea International Cooperation Agency and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

NEMA Head, Major-General T.Badral, Senior Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister L.Saynaa and Deputy Head of NEMA, Colonel Ts.Ganzorig reported on the progress of ongoing preparations for the ministerial conference.

The meeting aimed to exchange views on the possibility of cooperation with the foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations on hosting the meeting this summer.
