Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ More than 50 scholars are participating in a discussion to find a science-based development solutions in the State House today.

The ‘Science-based Development Solution’ discussion is being organized by the Mongolian National Council of Scientists and attended by members of the Mongolian Academy of Science and its affiliate institutes.

Mongolia was considered an industrialized country in the 20th century, said the participants of the discussion, while pointing out that around 30 percent of Mongolia’s export good was industrial products and mining products 20 percent. However, mining products, especially raw materials constitute around 90 percent of Mongolia’s export today. “It is time to answer the question if Mongolia will remain a raw material supplier or become an industrialized country,” said economist Kh.Batsuuri in his presentation. The economist also emphasized the importance of close trilateral cooperation between the government, scientific organizations and the private sector in order to boost industry. “It is essential that Mongolia fulfills its basic needs such as food, energy and oil by itself,” he said.

According to Dr. D.Batchuluun from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, Mongolia needs to focus on innovation technology in order to keep pace with the global scientific development. “Mongolia has adopted a law on Innovation and launched the establishment of a science park. I am sure we can develop like other countries, by investing more into science and innovation,” he said.

The discussion is continuing.
