19th International Travel Mart expo opens

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The 19th International Travel Mart (ITM) tourism expo opened today at the Misheel Complex.
The annual expo is being participated by more than 250 domestic enterprises operating in tourism sector and international exhibitors from China, Turkey, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Buryatia and Tuva of the Russian Federation.
The expo aims to boost Mongolia’s tourism sector and promote tourism opportunities in Mongolia to international markets.
Minister of Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat attended the opening of the expo and said, “As an important pillar of the national economy, tourism sector is capable of creating jobs in a short time and augmenting export. For instance, Mongolia received 470 thousand tourists in 2017, earning USD 404 million. The Ministry is working on identifying the main routes of tourism sector, which will make it possible to focus on infrastructure development and investment based on these directions.”
“There is a need to increase the adequacy of entertainment services and recreational activities for tourists. Then tourists will learn more about the culture and history of Mongolia during their sightseeing tours,” he added.
Moreover, 18 aimags including Arkhangai, Uvurkhangai, Zavkhan and Bayan-Ulgii are participating in the expo under common management. The expo organizers select a provincial partner every year, and Zavkhan aimag was chosen this year.
“Zavkhan aimag is geographically and culturally a unique place. We aim to utilize these advantages to boost local tourism sector,” said D.Batsaikhan, Governor of Zavkhan aimag. The Governor informed that a number of tourism events including the Nomads’ Cultural Festival will be held in Zavkhan aimag this year. “We are working towards making the Nomads Cultural Festival an annual event,” he said.
