Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ At its plenary meeting on April 26, the Parliament passed the Bill to amend the Law on Allocation of Land to Mongolian Citizens for Ownership and related amendment to the Law on Follow-up Regulations, during its first consideration.

The approval of the law authorizes Mongolian citizens to obtain land ownership for family needs for free until 2028.

As of 2017, 18.3 percent of the total population and 62.54 percent of total households obtained land for family needs. A surveillance on whether it needs to amend the law was conducted in 2017, which revealed a necessity to extend land allocation term. Thus, the Bill was formulated to amend the Law with a purpose to extend the term of free land allocation to Mongolian citizens for family needs.

The Law on Allocation of Land to Mongolian Citizens for Ownership was first adopted on June 27, 2002 and took effect on May 1, 2003, since when it has been amended seven times. In three of the amendments, the provision on one-time land ownership for family needs was extended by five years each.
