Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The ‘Danshig Naadam- Khuree Tsam 2018’ religious and cultural festival will be held on August 4, 5 at Khui Doloon Khudag. The Governor’s Office of Ulaanbaatar city will organize the festival jointly with the Gandantegchinlen Monastery.

The first Danshig Naadam was held in 1639 to celebrate the enthronement of High Saint Zanabazar as the first Bogd Jebtsundamba Khutuktu and the spiritual leader of Mongolian people. It is one of Mongolia’s major religious and cultural events.

The annual festival which is held on the first weekend of the August will feature various events including debate between monks, tsam performance, raising of the Soyombo banner, performance of religious songs, wrestling tournament between 256 wrestlers, above five-year-old horse racing, trotting march and horse archery.

Tsam performance is considered as the main feature of Danshig Naadam. During tsam over 120 people wearing enormous and glorious masks and heavy ornaments dance in roles of deities with different characters such as Ochirvaani (Vajrapani), suppressing the enemies and subduing the evil spirits with fierce movements.
