In his opening remarks, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Ch.Ulaan said, “In partnership with the General Authority for Veterinary Services, the Ministry is working to achieve several big goals, such as introducing a nationwide system that tracks livestock migration alongside tracing back its genes, building quarantine facilities for livestock export as well as creating a database for planning, implementing and reporting actions to prevent and combat infectious diseases in livestock.”
Measures taken in the veterinary sector in 2018 and its results, future objectives, plans and the sector’s legal reform were introduced. They then discussed topics, such as the new scientific achievements in the sector and policy for human resource.
With the Animal Health Law being in effect from June 2018, the sector was restructured and caught the attention of countries and international organizations, such as the World Organisation for Animal Health and the World Trade Organization. As various countries are expressing their interest in importing meat and meat products from Mongolia as a result, the participants highlighted that it is of utmost importance to have the country have a healthy status for several livestock diseases in aims of not only protecting animal health, but also providing citizens with safe and healthy foods and increasing export.
