'Mongolia-US Youth Year' commences

/MONTSAME/ Today, the official inauguration ceremony of the ‘Mongolia – United States
Youth Year’ was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Foreign Minister
D.Tsogtbaatar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United
States to Mongolia Michael Stanley Klecheski, and Representative of the
International Republican Institute to Mongolia Craig Castagna delivered remarks
at the event.
In the framework
of the Youth Year, the sides have planned to undertake a number of activities
such as organizing cultural and sports events and an essay contest among youths
of the two countries, supporting initiatives related to innovative operations
of universities and academic organizations, sharing experience by inviting US
Nobel laureates, top young entrepreneurs, ventures, investors, and start-up
owners to Mongolia.
The opening
of the Youth Year was attended by over 100 representatives from the Mongolian Foreign
Ministry, US Embassy in Mongolia, International Republican Institute, LEAD
Mongolia program, Peace Corps Mongolia, Youth Development Department of the
capital city, Council of Mongolians Abroad, Mongolian Association of State
Alumni, and other relevant organizations.
Furthermore,
the third ‘Leaders Advancing Democracy (LEAD) Alliance Summit’ kicked off
alongside the ceremony. This summit brought together youth representatives from
Mongolia, Bhutan, Kyrgyzstan, and Myanmar. Participants of the summit will share information on
social participation and experiences of young leaders of their countries and
broadly discuss issues related to environment, unemployment, poverty reduction, transparency
and the fight against corruption. In his address to the summit, Foreign
Minister D.Tsogtbaatar underlined the high importance of establishing world
peace and shaping a bright future.
The matter
of declaring 2019 as the Year of Youth was first brought up in 2017, during the
30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia
and the United States and was later finalized in scope of Prime Minister
U.Khurelsukh’s official visit to US in September, 2018.
