Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh received today representatives of non-governmental organizations in charge of water issue.

"At a conference organized for improving water governance on the occasion of World Water Day, attendees agreed that there is a necessity to find proper method to integrate implementation of water policy nationwide. Therefore, I am forwarding a request to set up an agency involved in water issues," said D.Baasandorj, Head of Mongolian Water Partnership NGO.  Accepting the request, PM U.Khurelsukh said that I had assigned Minister of Environment and Tourism to study establishment of water agency and to introduce it at the Cabinet meeting. I will re-assign the Minister to take immediate actions on it.

The Government has been making water policy issue its priority. The construction of new Wastewater Treatment Plant was launched last month. The Government of Mongolia and the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation established an agreement worth USD 350 million for improvement of water supply of Ulaanbaatar city.

By realizing the project successfully, water sources of Ulaanbaatar city, where half of the population reside, will be increased in addition to having possibilities to reuse grey water. A grey water recycling plant will be put into operation. These are significant projects to save fresh water reserves, the PM highlighted.
