Peacebook forum takes place
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ With an aim to call on wide use of social media to strengthen peace and mutual understandings among youths around the world, the first ever ‘Peacebook’ forum was held on April 5 at the initiatives of Minister of Foreign Affairs D.Tsogtbaatar.
Over 250 delegates from public organizations, NGOs, Diplomatic Missions, Resident Representative’s Offices, scientific and research institutes, private organizations and media organizations gathered at the first forum.
Foreign Minister D.Tsogtbaatar said “People hostile each other due to nationalism, tension and contempt. Facebook is a big platform that has billions of users around the world. When I visit Facebook headquarters last year, I put a proposal to overspread the ideology of peace worldwide using this platform. Authorities of Facebook expressed to back the proposal. Idea of this forum is to demonstrate that we can promote peace and friendship to the youths around the world through social media. Therefore, we named the forum ‘Peacebook’.”
Head of Public Policy for Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mongolia at Facebook George Chen noted in his presentation that there are broad opportunities in social network. "We are intending to make three renovations relevant to Mongolia in Facebook. Specifically, we will discuss cyber information security, cyber education, as well as improving business environment. The issue of how to promote Mongolian businesses to the world will be touched too. Information security is the most important issue. It is vital to find gateway for users to distinguish objective truth of information and to be distinct from fake news."
Mentioning that Mongolians lead as their Facebook use in Asia compared to its population, Mr. George Chen also introduced significance of familiarizing digital technology among population and introducing it in economic and education sectors.
In scope of the forum, Social Media Wall was opened in Ulaanbaatar city.
