GEF Expanded Constituency Workshop for Asia takes place in Ulaanbaatar
EnvironmentUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The GEF (Global Environment Fund) Expanded Constituency Workshop for Asia is taking place in Ulaanbaatar between April 23 and 26. More than 130 representatives from 14 countries are participating in the event.
“The GEF meeting aimed at addressing the financial mechanism for international environmental issues is taking place in Ulaanbaatar. A total of four projects are designed to be implemented with the USD 9 million provided by GEF to Mongolia. The Government will classify the pressing environmental issues of Mongolia and implement the most effective and important projects. Currently, a project worth USD 4 million is being planned. We are delighted with the possibility to attract additional funding if the project is effective and make contribution to the region and international community,” noted D.Ariuntuya, senior specialist of the Climate Change and International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
“I believe that a number of effective projects and programs based on the outcomes of the meeting will be implemented in the future. As for Mongolia, it is likely that the projects on pasture land degradation, desertification and climate change mitigation will be effective,” said Ms Francoise Clottes, Director of Strategy and Operations at the GEF.
Mongolia joined the GEF in 1994 and has been implementing a number of projects and programs within the cooperation. Project proposals within the seventh replenishment of the GEF were made by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
