SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Republic of Turkey was celebrated yesterday, June 24. On the occasion of the anniversary, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Mongolia Ahmet Yazal reported about development of bilateral relations and cooperation.
Prime Minister, Deputy
PM, Deputy Minister of Customs and Trade and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs
of the Republic of Turkey visited Mongolia in the past. Speaker of the
Grand National Assembly of Turkey will pay a visit to Mongolia soon. From Mongolia,
Speaker of the Mongolian Parliament and Minister of Defense visited Turkey as
well. It is an evidence of bilateral political relations developing at high
level.
Furthermore,
cooperation in education sector has been expanding. Specifically, several
Turkish universities started cooperating with Mongolian universities and colleges.
The Institute of Turkic Studies, which is committed to studying historical and
cultural relations between the two countries and their heritages, was
established at the National University of Mongolia. Moreover, 15 students
studying at this institute are getting involved in scholarship program in
Turkey, which will be continued further. In addition, the sides plan to
establish a museum based on the monument of Tonyukuk in Nalaikh district.
Besides, bilateral cooperation
in defense and health sectors have been intensifying, but economic cooperation
is lagging behind. Trade turnover between Mongolia and Turkey was estimated at USD
44 million last year and about 3000 Turkish citizens traveled to Mongolia,
which is too insufficient index. “To develop bilateral economic relations and cooperation, it needs
to resolve air transport issues as a priority,” said the Ambassador.
