South Korea to assist preserving cultural heritage

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The National Center for Cultural Heritage of Mongolia and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation today signed a memorandum of cooperation on preservation of cultural heritage.


Director of the National Center for Cultural Heritage G.Enkhbat noted that the Republic of Korea is a quite experienced country in directions of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage. Therefore, we are striving to learn from their experience on preserving their cultural heritage and introduce it in Mongolia. 


He added that the Korean side will render technical assistance to the National Center for Cultural Heritage being built in aims of inscribing, documenting and preserving cultural heritage of Mongolia. The new building of the center is expected to be commissioned in October, this year.


There are more than 240 thousand exhibits being preserved in museums in Mongolia. Damaged and defective exhibits make up 60-70 percent of it. Therefore, it is necessary to rehabilitate these cultural properties promptly.


"I am happy that the sides are launching partnership in protecting intangible cultural heritage field today. It is very hard to rehabilitate intangible heritages. We will share our gained experience with Mongolians and render all round support, " said Jin, Ok-sub, President of the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation.
