Sustainable Tourism Development Project launched in Khentii aimag
EnvironmentUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. A launching ceremony for the Sustainable Tourism Development Project was held in Dadal soum of Khentii aimag on October 10, with presence of MP and Head of the Cabinet Secretariat L. Oyun-Erdene, State Secretary of the Ministry of
Environment and Tourism Ts.Tsengel, Governor of Khentii aimag N.Ganbyamba and
Mark Bezuijen, Senior Environment Specialist for ADB and the team leader of the
project.
Under the Sustainable Tourism Development Project, a soft loan of USD38 million financed by the ADB, will be used for nature protection and tourism development activities at Khuvsgul Lake and Onon-Balj National Park, the birthplace of revered Mongolian leader Chinggis Khaan. Launching of the project activities in Khuvsgul aimag was held on October 3.
This project, to be implemented in 2019-2024 marks the first loan in Mongolia to
focus on tourism and protected area management, and will serve as models for
economically inclusive development and conservation.
Within the
project, Chinggis Khaan tourism complex, 2.6km auto road between Dadal soum and
Chinggis Khaan tourism complex and 4.5km electricity transmission line
alongside three parking places with capacity of 50 buses and 220 automobiles.
As well as activities will be taken to improve management of areas with special
protection. Officials said that expected outcome is increased benefits of
locals from tourism, improved tourism infrastructure and waste management and
creation of possibility to develop sustainable tourism.
