10.2 million livestock winter in transhumance

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. This year, 10.2 million livestock are wintering in transhumance, which is doubled compared with the previous year, according to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.
Although wintering goes normal due to relatively stable good weather across the most region, there is a risk of overgrazing and deficiency of hay. Financial assistance of MNT 350 million has been granted to the aimags in heavy snowfall including Arkhangai, Bulgan, Dundgovi and Uvurkhangai.
Grass and fodder are being provided at a discount of 50 percent in the areas with heavy snowfall. This year, grass and fodder were prepared domestically without the help of i other entities.
According to a government decree, additional hay and fodder reserves are being jointly made by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, State Emergency Commission and National Emergency Management Agency in the selected 7 aimags which the wintering in transhumance might get worse, said Head of the Animal Husbandry Development Policy and Management Department of the Ministry D.Batmunkh.
