A new project launches to increase herders’ involvement in social insurance

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A new project on enhancing involvement of herders in social insurance started implementing from February this year. Co-implementers of the project-the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) provided information about the project yesterday. 

 

The project aims to encourage herders’ business initiatives and operations of cooperatives. More specifically, the project targets to  involve herders in social health insurance, widen scope of the involvement as well as improve quality of life of herding families in order to ensure their preparedness for natural disaster and improve social protection services for rural population, underlined G.Unurbayar, State Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. 


With financing of USD 1.9 million, the project will be carried out until January, 2022. “In frames of the project, a study on habitual behavior of herders will be conducted. It will reveal social (institutional) and habitual reasons of herders for not involving in social insurance and new ideas and actions targeted to overcome encountering barriers will be taken thanks to the study,” said Vinod Ahuja, UNFAO Representative in Mongolia.


International organizations such as the International Labor Organization, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFRA) and UNICEF will partner in the project.
