Head dressing and hair clips of Mongolian wives

Material: Silver and gold coating


Consisting of various parts such as the top and side parts as well as hair clips, the head dressing weighs 1,005 grams in total. Jewelry and accessories worn by wives are typically crafted with gold and silver, and uses gemstones such as pearl, turquoise, and red coral as ornaments.


This particular head dressing was used by the wife of the 6th Zay Gegeen Luvsantuvdenchoijiinyam /1905-1930/ Dolgor. The artifact was acquired for the museum from a citizen of Battsengel soum named Chimedlkham in 1985. 


Main head dressing: Curved patterns are inscribed around the main part of the head dressing in the shape of a bowl. Its front consists of a precious stone placed on top of a lotus, with floral patterns all around with red and green glass ornaments on its petals while red and brown glass ornaments are installed in between. 


Hair clips: Four rectangular shaped hair clips with curved patterns throughout. Blue glass ornaments are also installed on the hair clips.


Root clips: A precious stone is placed on top of a lotus in the middle, with curved patterns all around it. Two light and dark colored ornaments are installed on its two sides.
