Valid candidates start receiving candidacy card
PoliticsUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. The General Election Commission has
begun issuing a candidate card to qualified contestants of 2020 parliamentary
election.
Initially, 15 political parties and four coalitions applied
the GEC for registration to contest in the election and received a certificate
of confirmation. 13 parties and 4 coalitions then submitted their candidature
documents to the GEC within the legal term or on May 17-21. However, the
Democratic Reform Party and the Motherland Party did not nominate candidates. 208
independent candidates submitted their platforms to the Mongolian National
Audit Office (MNAO), while 137 independent candidates filed their applications
to the GEC. Since May 21, the GEC screened the documents of all candidates and approved
the eligible candidates under the Law on Parliamentary Elections. Today, the
SEC is to publicly introduce the list of valid contestants.
At the GEC, the candidate cards are being issued during working
hours. In prevention of COVID-19, the GEC is adhering a related recommendation
not to make massive gathering at once, issuing the candidate card to 12
independent candidates within an hour. The contestants of the parties and
coalitions will be given the candidate card according to the schedules set.
