Cabinet backs draft bill on additional financing agreement on prevention of COVID-19

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At its regular meeting on January 20, the Cabinet backed a draft bill on additional financing agreement relating to prevention of COVID-19 pandemic.


An ordinance by the Prime Minister on giving authority to sign the agreement will be issued once the corresponding Parliamentary Standing Committees discuss and support the draft bill. In the framework of a project “Mongolia COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness” being realized with funding from the World Bank, it is projected to get soft loan worth USD 50.7 million.


The funding will be spent on purchasing vaccine required for immunizing up to 60 percent of entire population, transporting, storing and ensuring safety of the vaccine and distributing it countrywide. Moreover, about 8000 physicians and specialists will be trained for vaccinating, preventing from potential risks and assessing the level to be involved in the immunization.


According to the preliminary estimate, around two million doses of vaccine is required to immunize 60 percent of the population. Nearly 12 thousand health workers are set to participate in vaccination works.
