Mongolia leading the region with its human rights index

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Established in the United States in 1941, Freedom House NGO rates countries with democracy and freedom index, dividing them into three categories “Free”, “Moderately Free” and ‘Not Free”


Mongolia has been included in a category of “free country” in "Freedom in the World 2021" report with 84 scores out of 100, specifically 36 scores out of 40 in political rights and 48 scores out of 60 in civil liberties. In Asia, only Japan, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan, Israel and East Timor are in the category.


This year’s report by the Freedom House warns that the number of countries where the situation of human rights deteriorated has increased in the past 15 years while the number of countries that experienced improvements has been declining. 


The trend began from 2006 reached its highest peak in 2021, the report highlights. Therefore, this year’s report has been named “Democracy under Siege” by the Freedom House.
