Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Mongolia’s first space flight, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene received Hero of Mongolian People’s Republic, Hero of USSR, recipient of the Order of Alexander Nevsky of Russia, cosmonaut J.Gurragchaa.

The Prime Minister congratulated the cosmonaut for carrying out about 30 experiments involving physics, technology, environment, healthcare, and biology during the Soyuz-39 mission, bringing honor to the country 40 years ago.

During the meeting, a space technology project jointly developed by the National University of Mongolia, the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, and the Mongolian Space Technology Association was introduced. With plans to be implemented in 2020-2049, there are three phases for the project: Phase 1 - Acquire (2020-2029), Phase 2 - Compete (2030-2039), and Phase 3 - Lead (2040-2049).

Noting that the time has come to appropriately grasp the big picture in order to make up for lost opportunities despite having done significant works in terms of studying space, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene informed the cosmonaut of his decision to establish a working group in charge of operating a national committee and developing policy documents and plans in the framework of developing space technology. He then expressed readiness to provide support in developing draft projects on establishing a space technology center and building a satellite as well as joint projects on the matter.
