Prime Minister meets U.S. Ambassador

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Mongolia Michael Klecheski on July 12. 


At the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed pleasure with the expansion of cooperation between the countries with strategic partnership. 


The United States provided USD 1.7 million worth of assistance, protective equipment and 50 ventilators to Mongolia to support the country’s COVID-19 response and prevention efforts and USD 200,000 to help organize training on the use of the equipment. Mongolia provided USD 1 million worth of protective equipment to the United States. 


Mongolia has successfully made an agreement to purchase 2.5 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Noting that Mongolia is making strenuous efforts to vaccinate its population to overcome the pandemic and that COVID-19 vaccine third dose studies and trials are underway globally, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene asked the U.S. to cooperate with the Mongolian government in issuing a third dose to its citizens. 


The Prime Minister also expressed willingness to strengthen cooperation in anti crime and corruption efforts and showed an interest in working together to get Mongolia’s raking of 111th in the corruption index to double figures. 


Ambassador Michael Klecheski underlined that reduction of corruption is greatly important in protecting democracy and ensuring good governance.
