Parliamentary Sub-committee Chair meets UN Resident Coordinator

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Member of the State Great Khural, Chair of the Sub-committee on Sustainable Development Kh.Bulgantuya on August 24 had a meeting with Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Mongolia Tapan Mishra to discuss cooperation.
MP Kh.Bulgantuya said the Sub-Committee on Sustainable Development has been moved under the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economy from the Standing Committee on Social Policy, informing the UN Resident Coordinator of plans to set up a multilateral cooperation unit under the Parliament to expand the sub-committee’s activities. The establishment of the unit involving international organizations, government and non-government organizations, civil society organizations and the private sector will open up opportunities to step up sustainable development policy efforts.
The MP also said that, plans are afoot to establish a youth parliament and select representatives from high-school students of 21 aimags in efforts to provide parliamentary education to children and youth. They will first discuss climate change and the decision made will be submitted to the State Great Khural. This initiative will make the State Great Khural an institution that hears the stances and aspirations of the country’s youth and implements the best suggestions.
UN Resident Coordinator Tapan Mishra stressed the significance of involving children and youth in the country’s development through the youth parliament. Youth are key to achieving the UN sustainable development goals and Mongolia’s sustainable development objectives, said the Resident Coordinator, undertaking to support the initiative as well as the State Great Khural’s Sustainable Development Forum.
