Historian Morris Rossabi awarded Certificate of Merit
Society
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mr.
V.Enkhbold, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United
Nations, has received Professor Morris Rossabi, well-known historian and
mongolist living in New York City, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, in the
Mission of Mongolia.
During the meeting, Permanent
Representative V.Enkhbold presented Morris Rossabi with a Certificate of Merit
from the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and a ‘Golden Gerege’
commemorative souvenir in recognition of his valuable contribution to the
development of Mongolian studies and the promotion of Mongolian history and
culture in the United States and beyond.
Morris Rossabi is an American
historian specialized in Chinese and Central and Inner Asian studies. He is
currently a Senior scholar and adjunct professor at Columbia University and
also a Distinguished Professor of History at Queens College who has been teaching
courses such as The Mongols in History and History of the Mongols.
Morris Rossabi is a well
published author of dozens of books and articles. Mongolians know well his
books ‘The Mongols and Global History’ (W.W. Norton, 2010), ‘Modern Mongolia:
From Khans to Commissars to Capitalists’ (University of California, 2005),
Khubilai Khan: His Life and Times (University of California, 1988) and others.
At the same time, diplomatic
staff of the Mission of Mongolia to the United Nations also had a meeting with
Morris and Mary Rossabi and was acquainted with their life and research works.
