FAO, EU and GIZ visit Umnudelger soum

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. The European Union Ambassador to
Mongolia Ms. Axelle Nicaise and staff from the Directorate-General for
International Partnerships of the European Commission are visiting several
projects implemented in Khentii. They are travelling with a mission team
consisting of the Resident Representative of the Food and Agriculture
Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) in Mongolia Mr. Vinod Ahuja, and the
Country Director of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit
(GIZ) GmbH Mr. Daniel Passon.
The purpose of the mission is to visit the sites of the
recently launched project “Sustainable Resilient Ecosystem and Agriculture
Management in Mongolia” (STREAM” in short) and showcase proposed solutions
within this project. The STREAM project aims to increase capacity of Mongolian
communities to implement innovative and sustainable long-term landscape
management to address food system challenges and climate stresses. The STREAM
project is being implemented in Binder, Umnudelger and Bayan-Adraga soums of Khentii
aimag, for a three-year period from 2021 to 2024 with a total budget of EUR
4.55 million. It is co-financed by the European Union and the the Federal
Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-implemented by
GIZ and FAO in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, and
Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.
Today the mission team met with the soum governor and the
parties closely discussed priority areas of respective organizations and
potential future cooperation. In addition, local authorities expressed their
full support for the “STREAM” project implementation as well as current and
future cooperation areas between Umnudelger soum and mission participants
