Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. ‘The Sales Girl’ film by Sengedorj Janchiv has recently won the Yakushi Pearl Award from the Osaka Asian Film Festival.

Of a total of 954 films that were submitted for the 17th edition of the film festival, the Mongolian film was selected as one of the 15 films to compete for the Grand Prix (Best Picture Award). The film’s main characters were portrayed by Enkhtuul Oidovjamts - a seasoned stage actress - and young actress Bayartsetseg Bayangerel.

While director Sengedorj Janchiv first introduced the Mongolian way of thinking as well as the unique nomadic setting often found in the countryside to the Japanese audience through his film ‘Oxygen’ at the Nara International Film Festival in 2010, he puts the spotlight on the views of modern youth through his new film.

Previously, as representatives of Mongolia, the film ‘Operation Tatar’ by Baatar Bat-Ulzii was screened at the festival in 2012, while ‘Don't Look at Me That Way’ by Uisenma Borchu was awarded with the Most Promising Talent Award in 2016. Last year, ‘Black Milk’ by Uisenma Borchu and ‘Naked Bulb’ by Zoljargal Purevdash were also selected for the festival’s Spotlight section.
