Society
Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. On March 21, 29 trainees of 14 soums
from Khovd Aimag and Bayan-Olgii Aimag started their 9-day training in
cultivating vegetables in greenhouses. In three blocks of each three days of
theory and practice, the participants will learn all necessary steps for
operating a greenhouse from preparing the soil and seeds, fertilizing, crop
rotation, pest control, care for the crops and harvesting. Also, the
participants will get acquainted with different types of greenhouses, from
make-shift greenhouse to sophisticated winter greenhouse, and with technology
for irrigation.
Among the participants are members of cooperative and
community groups, staff of protected area administration and river basin
authority, who will share and disseminate the learned in their soums.
Instructed by experienced teachers of the Khugjil
development polytechnical college of Khovd Aimag, the participants will grow
cucumber, tomato and bell pepper in the greenhouses of the college and
hopefully also in close future in their soums.
SPACES cooperates in this training with the KfW funded ‘Biodiversity
and Adaptation to Climate Change’ Project (BACCP) by providing technical skills
to those ten applicants for a greenhouse, who were selected by BACCP.
SPACES is supported by the German Government and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in cooperation with the Mongolian Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
