Prime Minister holds official talks with German Chancellor

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On October 14, Prime Minister of Mongolia L.Oyun-Erdene held official talks with Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz.


During the official talks, the Prime Minister asked the Chancellor to intensify cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector within the framework of Mongolia’s Vision-2050 long-term development policy and New Revival Policy, to involve and partner with Mongolia in the implementation of infrastructure and investment projects and programs that were discussed during the G7 Summit, and cooperate with Mongolia on large-scale construction projects, including the Tavantolgoi power plant and the 5th Thermal Power Plant projects.


Their meeting touched on realizing the “Industrial Recovery” policy of Mongolia in cooperation with Germany. Thus, the sides discussed the possibilities of jointly implementing the construction project of the semi-processing plant of rare earth elements, which are the main raw materials for copper processing plants and electric vehicle equipment, and it was agreed to start joint research work.


It was agreed to implement a phased training program for 1,000 engineers in the priority sectors that are set out in the New Revival Policy such as energy, transport, logistics, mining, information technology, urban planning, agriculture, and forestry.


In connection with the Government of Mongolia’s decision to declare 2023 the year of visiting Mongolia, the sides agreed to pay special attention to facilitating the visa requirements for travel between the citizens of the two countries, increasing the frequency of direct flights, developing Mongolian studies, and deepening cultural cooperation.


While exchanging views on Mongolia’s goal of introducing European standards in the reform of road and transport and public transportation, the sides agreed to establish passenger and freight transportation agreements in the near future and set up a joint working group involving the German Ministry for Digital and Transport.


The meeting also touched on ensuring food security, developing value-added national products, supporting export-oriented enterprises, and improving access to financing.


The Prime Minister expressed confidence that his visit and issues that are discussed during the official talks with the Chancellor will yield concrete results and Mongolia-Germany relations and cooperation will be advanced to a new level.


During his 3-day official visit, the Prime Minister paid a courtesy call on President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and held official meetings with some members of the government, including the Federal Minister of Digital and Transport. Also, the Prime Minister visited the "Mongolian Information and Trade Promotion Center of Europe" and became acquainted with its activities.
