Mongolian Speaker becomes Honorary Doctorate of İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Mr. Zandanshatar Gombojav, Chairman of the State Great Khural (Parliament) of Mongolia, visited the Republic of Turkey from October 13 to 17 at the invitation of the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Şentop.


On October 16, as part of his official visit, Zandanshatar Gombojav visited the İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University and became the first foreigner to receive the title of Honorary Doctorate due to his valuable contribution to the Central Asian and Mongolian studies.



“Chairman of the State Great Khural G.Zandanshatar, as part of his policy to support the discovery of Mongolian historical and cultural monuments abroad, opened up opportunities for Mongolian researchers to cooperate with the Turkish researchers to study the Ilkhanate monuments in the Anatolian peninsula, which made a valuable contribution to the development of Central Asian and Mongolian studies”, said the university’s Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Muhsin Akbaş, while emphasizing that the title was awarded to G.Zandanshatar by the unanimous decision of the university’s Academic Council.



For his part, the Chairman of the State Great Khural expressed that he is honored to become the third person and the first foreigner ever to receive the title of Honorary Doctorate from Izmir Katip Çelebi University.


“I am confident that this honorary title will reinforce and expand cooperation in the historical and archeological areas. A Mongolia-Turkey joint research team found the remains of an ancient summer palace built for Chinggis Khaan`s grandson, Hulagu Khan in the Van region of Turkey in July 2022, which opened a new page in the history of Mongolian archeology”, he added.



In addition, G.Zandanshatar expressed that he will support the efforts and initiatives that are aimed to expand and develop cooperation to a new level, and wished success to the director, academics, teachers, and researchers of the university in the endeavors,




The İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University is one of the largest state-owned universities in the Republic of Turkey. Since the Memorandum of Cooperation between the National University of Mongolia and the İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University was established in 2019, a student exchange program has been successfully implemented.
