The Pandemic and Economic Crisis Caused a Baby Bust

Ulaanbaatar, January 31, /MONTSAME/. According to the Mongolian statistics office, the number of women who gave birth is 65090 and live-born birth is 67874. Each rate decreased by 8.5% and 8.1% from 2021, respectively. In Ulaanbaatar, Bayan-Ulgii, Uvs, Orkhon, and Gobisumber aimags, the birth rate, number of births per 1000 people, was 0.1-4.5% higher than the national average, while for other aimags, this rate was 0.1-11.1% lower than the national average. For instance, the number of live-born birth in Tov aimag decreased by 8.5%, which is the record low rate.
The pandemic and economic crisis were the main factors for this drop.
