Ulaanbaatar, July 28, 2023 /MONTSAME/. According to the National Agency Meteorology and the Enviromental Monitoring, starting today (July 28), it is expected to heat up in most areas, beginning from the southwest of the western aimags. As of yesterday, it reached 40 degrees in Shinejinst Soum of Bayankhongor aimag. This heat will not only last for 5-6 days in the Gobi aimags but will also cover most of the regions.

 

On July 23-25, heavy rains and thunderstorms occurred in the northern and eastern parts of the country. As a result, the water levels of the Kharaa, Kherlen, Balj, Onon, Orkhon, and Zegestei rivers, originating from the Khenti mountain range, have exceeded the safe level by 15-45 cm.

 

Specifically, the Kharaa River, the Kherlen River, the Balj River, the Onon River, and the Orkhon River behind the Khangai Mountains, along with the Ongi River in the Saikhan-Ovoo Soum of Dundgobi aimag, have been warned of flooding.

 

Citizens residing in the basins of the respective rivers, as well as those traveling for vacation, tourism, or work, are advised to exercise particular caution.

 

According to the weather forecast for the upcoming days, heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected in the following areas.

  • On July 28, in the northern part of western and eastern aimags;
  • On July 29, in the mountainous area of Khangai and Khuvsgul aimag;
  • On July 30, in the mountainous area of Khangai and Khentii aimag and basin of the Orkhon-Selenge River;
  • On July 31, in western aimags and the western part of the central aimags;
  • On August 01, in most of the central aimags and the northern part of the eastern aimags;
  • On August 02, in the western part of the western aimags, the eastern part of the central aimags, and some parts of the eastern aimags.
