Cooperation with Switzerland in Development of Winter Tourism Discussed

Ulaanbaatar, January 17, 2024 /MONTSAME/ On January 16, Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai met with the President of the Swiss Confederation Ms. Viola Patricia Amherd during the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum being held in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.


Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene congratulated Viola Amherd on her appointment as the President of the Swiss Confederation in 2024. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Swiss Confederation. The Prime Minister expressed his belief that the countries will widely celebrate the historical anniversary and that relations and cooperation between the two countries will be intensified.


In addition, the Premier highlighted the contribution of Switzerland to the social and economic development of Mongolia. The projects implemented under the Swiss Development Programme in agriculture, mining, education, and other social sectors of Mongolia had a significant impact on reducing poverty, improving the livelihood of citizens, diversifying the economy, and strengthening democracy, the PM noted. The sides discussed the possibilities of developing winter tourism in Mongolia taking into account the similarities between nature and climate of Mongolia and Switzerland.


The President of the Swiss Confederation in 2024, Viola Amherd, who is responsible for the issues of defense, sports, and civil protection, shared her views on the cooperation in strengthening the capabilities of the border guards of Mongolia.
