Mongolian Athlete Orkhon Qualifies for 2024 Paris Olympics

Ulaanbaatar, April 22, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Asian Wrestling Qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics were held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on April 19-21, 2024.


In the women's 62 kg category, Orkhon Purevdorj, the former World Champion, Asian Champion, and Honored Athlete of Mongolia, won the right to participate in the Olympic Games by defeating South Korean wrestler Hanbit Lee. Orkhon Purevdorj became the fifth Mongolian freestyle wrestler and the 13th member of the Mongolian team to qualify for the "Paris-2024" Olympic Games.


Orkhon Purevdorj, renowned for her outstanding achievements, including a sole Asian gold medal in Bishkek in 2018, proved her technical mastery by executing a flawless single-leg takedown. She quickly and accurately transitioned into an arm bar, skillfully positioning her opponent in a way that led to a decisive fall. This strategic maneuver secured her victory in a mere 1 minute and 56 seconds.


She previously participated in the "Rio-2016" Olympic Games.


In the men's 86 kg category at the Asian Wrestling Qualifiers in Bishkek, B. Bat-Erdene, an International Master of Sports, beat Chinese contender Zushen Lin, earning the right to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.


Additionally, in the men's 125 kg category, M. Lkhagvagerel, a Silver and Bronze medalist of the world championship, secured a spot in Paris 2024 by defeating China's Ding Zhiwei with a score of 2:0.
