Most Traded Stocks in Mongolian Stock Market Named

Ulaanbaatar, June 4, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The value of the Mongolian stock market reached MNT 11.8 trillion in the first quarter of 2024, equivalent to 17.1 percent of Mongolian GDP.

In the first quarter of 2024, MNT 204.93 billion worth of securities were traded, of which MNT 188.94 billion on the stock exchange, and MNT 15.99 billion through joint open investment funds. The Financial Regulatory Commission of Mongolia commented that this period saw intensified trading of stocks.

 

Types of securities traded by percentage:

  • 62.7 percent in stocks
  • 20.77 percent in corporate debt instruments
  • 8.37 percent in investment fund units
  • 8.16 percent in equity securities

In the first quarter of 2024, MNT 128.48 billion stocks were traded, an increase of 2.45 times compared to the same period of 2023. The value of stocks traded was MNT 8.9 billion in the primary stock market and MNT 119.58 billion in the secondary market. The top 30 traded company stocks were worth MNT 118.76 billion.

 

The top 10 traded company stocks are:


  • “Gobi” JSC 67.89 billion
  • “Khan Bank” JSC 8.75 billion
  • “Bogd Bank” JSC 6.12 billion
  • “Golomt Bank” JSC 4.7 billion
  • “Trade Development Bank” JSC 3.23 billion
  • “Khas Bank” JSC 3.11 billion
  • “APU” JSC 2.84 billion
  • “Gazar Shim Uildver” JSC 2.7 billion
  • “Ard Financial Group” JSC 2.53 billion
  • “Invescore Nonbank Financial Institution” JSC 2.5 billion


No corporate debt instruments were traded in the primary stock market. However, in the secondary market, MNT 42.56 billion were traded.


Since the adoption of the Mongolian Law on Investment Funds, 31 companies have special licenses for investment management operations as of the first quarter of 2024. In the secondary market, MNT 1.17 billion in closed joint investment units and MNT 15.99 billion in open joint investment units were traded.


Equity securities worth MNT 15 billion were traded in the primary market, while MNT 1.73 billion were traded in the secondary market.


On the Mining Products Exchange, 5.22 million tons of coal were traded for MNT 2.38 trillion in 68 transactions, and 358.8 thousand tons of iron ore and enriched iron ore worth MNT 94.94 billion were traded in 59 transactions.

  • Coking coal 53.55 percent
  • Enriched coking coal 14.71 percent
  • Enriched medium ash content hard coking coal 2.45 percent
  • Enriched soft coking coal 0.25 percent
  • Above-average volatile content steaming coal 2.45 percent
  • Medium volatile content coking coal 24.14 percent
  • Thermal coal 2.45 percent

Types of iron ore and enriched iron ore traded by percentage:

  • Fe-52% iron ore 52.22 percent
  • Fe-58% enriched iron ore 20.19 percent
  • Fe-65% enriched iron ore 27.59 percent
