The 2024 Silk Way Rally Begins

Ulaanbaatar, July 8, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Opening Ceremony of the "Silk Way 2024" international rally-marathon took place at Lenin Square in Tomsk, Russia, on July 5, 2024.
This year's participants will cover a total distance of 5243 kilometers, passing through five regions in Russia (Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, Altai Krai, and the Altai Republic) and several aimags in Western, Gobi, and Central Mongolia. The racers will compete in 11 stages, with the finish line in Ulaanbaatar on July 15, 2024.
The third stage of the 2024 Silk Way Rally connected Barnaul, the administrative center of the Altai Territory, and Gorno-Altaisk, the capital of the Republic of Altai. This stage featured diverse terrain, changing every 30-40 kilometers, including fast dirt roads, forest tracks with bumps and holes, sticky sand, and high-speed sandy clearings. The participants reached a picturesque bivouac in the Altai Mountains on July 7, 2024.
Starting from the sixth stage, the race will continue through the Mongolian steppes, following a route through Western Khovd, Altai, Bayankhongor, Mandalgobi, Zuunmod, and finally Ulaanbaatar during the Naadam festival days.
