Ulaanbaatar, July 8, 2024 /MONTSAME/. A young Mongolian artist, U. Byambajargal, has been chosen to paint a public mural at the Cheltenham Paint Festival in the United Kingdom this summer.

Cheltenham Paint Festival was founded in 2017 by British artist Andy ‘Dice’ Davies, to create public art across the town. Held each year, the festival attracts leading UK and international street artists to paint in free-to-view locations, creating a legacy of large-scale diverse artwork. This year, the festival takes place in locations across Cheltenham, 27-28 July 2024.

Byambajargal, a graduate of the Mongolian National University of Culture and the Arts, has painted and exhibited in Mongolia and internationally. Currently based in Coventry in the UK, Byambajargal continues to paint and be active in the local art community. His paintings are in private collections in Mongolia, Malaysia, the Philippines, the USA and Singapore, where he has gallery representation with Sound of Art.

In a statement, Galven Lee, Director and Curator of Sound of Art gallery in Singapore said, “Byambajargal’s artistic growth over the last four years has been nothing short of extraordinary. His depictions of Mongolian landscapes have the ability to transcend boundaries and resonate deeply with people, attracting a diverse and growing group of collectors. As his gallery, we are excited that he has been selected for the Cheltenham Paint Festival, which attracts top street artists from around the world. Byambajargal’s mural will definitely add a vibrant touch of life to the streets of Cheltenham!”

Byambajargal specialises in impressionist landscapes and looks forward to bringing the beauty of Mongolia's grasslands to thousands of international visitors. He will be painting a mural of Mongolian scenery in central Cheltenham.

“I really miss Mongolia’s wide steppes and tranquil nature, so I have chosen to feature this in the mural. Through the use of bright colours, I would like to impart a sense of openness and freedom, to invite viewers to come and experience Mongolia for themselves,” said Byambajargal.

Around 500 artists from all over the world applied to paint at the Cheltenham Paint Festival this year. The Festival won Event of the Year at the UK’s SoGlos Awards in 2023.
