Today Marks the 113th Anniversary of the Restoration of Independence and Freedom of Mongolia
PoliticsUlaanbaatar, December 29, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Today marks the 113th anniversary of the Victory of the National Liberation Movement and the Restoration of Independence of Mongolia.
On December 29, 1911, the ninth day of the middle month of winter of the Year of the White Pig in the 15th sexagenary cycle, Mongolia restored its independence with a national movement known as the 1911 Revolution, ending the 200-year rule of the Manchu Qing Dynasty in Mongolia. The people of Mongolia proclaimed the VIII Bogd Jebtsundamba Khutuktu as the Theocratic Khaan of State and Religion with Absolute Power, presented him with the state seal, and state flag, and made a historic decision to establish a government with five ministries, thus establishing the independent Bogd Khanate of Mongolia.
Having laid the foundation for the revival of Mongolia, the 1911 Revolution is an event worthy of utmost significance in the history of modern Mongolia and a proud historic moment to be remembered and cherished by future generations. The liberation of Mongolia in 1911 was the embodiment of the Mongolian people’s decades-long ardent desire and persistent struggle to restore their independent state, the beginning of the great revival of national consciousness, and the grounds and basis for the People’s Revolution of 1921.
Although this historically important day was overlooked during the socialist period, the State Great Khural (the Parliament of Mongolia) passed a Law on August 16, 2007, designating December 29 as a public holiday. Subsequently, on December 23, 2011, another Law was enacted officially naming it the “Day of Restoration of National Freedom and Independence” and making it a public holiday.
