Ulaanbaatar, January 9, 2025 /MONTSAME/. To develop winter tourism in Khuvsgul aimag, the "Blue Pearl-2025" Ice Festival will take place on February 13-23, 2025.
The Ice Festival is traditionally held on March 2-3 each year. But this year, the Ministry of Culture, Sport, Tourism, and Youth of Mongolia rescheduled the date to February 13-23, 2025, as the Festival coincides with Tsagaan Sar, the traditional Mongol Lunar New Year. In 2000, to protect Khuvsgul Lake, which is revered as "The Sea Mother," and develop winter tourism, at the initiative of D. Lkhagvatsogt and J. Tumursukh, who worked as environmental inspectors of the Khuvsgul Specially Protected Area, an Ice Festival was held in a place called Santiin Uvur, where the locals participated in a horse sled race.
Since 2001, the Ice Festival has expanded its scope, becoming a vital annual event for the development of winter tourism in Mongolia.
Last winter, the “Blue Pearl-2024” Ice Festival attracted more than 20 thousand visitors. The “Kirva Anka” music band, which is an icon of the national culture and art of Ecuador, performed at the “Blue Pearl-2024" Ice Festival. The Festival welcomed over 270 guests and representatives from eight countries, including Japan, South Korea, Germany, and the United States. Notably, a delegation from Daejeon, South Korea, and a team from Korean KSBN television also participated in the "Blue Pearl" Ice Festival.
