Mongolia Bids Farewell to Honorable Ochirbat Punsalmaa

Ulaanbaatar, January 24, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On January 24, 2025, the State Funeral was held to pay tribute and bid farewell to Honorable Mr. Ochirbat Punsalmaa, First President of Mongolia, Chairman of the Presidium of the People’s Great Khural of the Mongolian People’s Republic, Laureate of the Supreme Decoration of the Mongolian State, “Order of Chinggis Khaan,” a distinguished statesman, public figure, and esteemed son of Mongolia.
This morning, the funeral procession of the late President departed from the Third State Central Hospital. Traffic Police Department officers and the State Honor Guard escorted the procession to the State Palace of Mongolia, accompanied by a ceremonial mourning march played by the Military Band of the General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces.
After the casket was placed at the “Ikh Mongol” Hall of the State Palace, President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Amarbayasgalan Dashzegve, Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, members of the Parliament and the Government of Mongolia, and other officials, paid tribute to Honorable Ochirbat Punsalmaa.
President Khurelsukh noted in his eulogy, “You had dedicated Your entire life to the service to Your country, from an ordinary herder to the President of the country, from a mining engineer to a minister, scientist, and academician. On behalf of the State and the people of Mongolia, I extend deepest condolences to the spouse, children, relatives, and loved ones of Honorable Ochirbat Punsalmaa.”
Before the casket was transported from the State Palace to the Altan Ulgii Cemetery, the Military Band played the National Anthem of Mongolia, and the State Honor Guard fired three ceremonial salutes.
On January 21, 2025, President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa decreed to announce a nationwide mourning on January 24, 2025. According to the Decree, the National Flag will be lowered to two-third of the height of the flag pole at a 45-degree incline throughout the country from 07 a.m. on January 24 until 12 a.m. on January 24, 2025. Furthermore, at noon on January 24, 2025, all public servants of Mongolia observed one minute of silence in tribute to Honorable Ochirbat Punsalmaa, the First President of Mongolia.
