Ice Sculptors from Ten Countries Competing in the “Mazaalai” Competition
Art & CultureUlaanbaatar, January 24, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The "Mazaalai-2025" International Ice Sculpting Competition is taking place in the National Park in Ulaanbaatar on January 23- 26, 2025.
Ice sculptors from the Russian Federation, the People's Republic of China, the Federation of Malaysia, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Poland, the United States of America, the Republic of Korea, and the United Mexican States are competing in the second "Mazaalai" International Ice Sculpting Competition, in addition to 6 national teams composed of 28 artists.
Ice sculpting began to be recognized in Mongolia in the early 2000s, and today, Mongolian ice sculptors are gaining a reputation and winning top places in international competitions with their skillful works that embody traditional Mongol art and design. Moreover, Mongolian artists regularly participate in prestigious international competitions and also play important roles as judges and organizers.
This year, 14 teams of artists competing in the "Mazaalai-2025" are crafting their icy masterpieces under the theme “WELCOME TO MONGOLIA.” The "Mazaalai" International Ice Sculpting Competition is organized by the Ministry of Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth of Mongolia and the Mongolian National Ice Carving Association.
This first "Mazaalai" International Ice Sculpting Competition was held in 2024 at the Sky Resort, as part of the “SAVE MAZAAALAI” campaign with the participation of 24 artists from 7 countries.
