Ulaanbaatar, January 31, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On January 29, 2025, Deputy Speaker of the State Great Khural (Parliament) of Mongolia Bulgantuya Khurelbaatar met with Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Mongolia Shannon Cowlin.

At the meeting, Deputy Speaker Bulgantuya Khurelbaatar expressed appreciation for the ADB’s continuous cooperation with Mongolia since 1997, particularly through grants and technical assistance projects aimed at developing urban and rural areas and improving the quality of life of citizens. Mrs. Bulgantuya emphasized her confidence that the ADB would continue to make a tangible contribution to Mongolia’s sustainable development.

The Deputy Speaker highlighted that, in order to accelerate the implementation of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the State Great Khural of Mongolia successfully organized the Trans-Altai Sustainablity Dialogue in 2023 and 2024 in collaboration with Stanford University and the Ban Ki Moon Foundation for a Better Future. The Dialogue played a crucial role in promoting gender equality, empowering women, strengthening peace, justice, and strong institutions, and advocating for an increase in the quota for female candidates to 20-30 percent.

Furthermore, the Deputy Speaker noted that under the auspices of the President of Mongolia, a Sustainability Forum is planned to be held this year under the theme “Climate Change: Billion Trees.” The Forum will bring together policymakers, experts, researchers, and practitioners from Asian countries and the Altai region to emphasize the importance of regional partnerships in addressing common environmental challenges. The discussions will focus on global lessons and best practices to foster cooperation in the region, particularly in green finance, technical collaboration, and diplomatic relations. In this regard, Deputy Speaker Bulgantuya invited the Asian Development Bank to collaborate as a sponsor for the Summit.
