Ulaanbaatar, March 21, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Ministry of Education of Mongolia initiated a study on regulating the participation of children under the age of 16 on social media platforms. Under this effort, the "MongolNet" platform will be introduced in secondary schools, establishing a secure, monitored, and structured group chat system for communication.

For a long period of time, schools, teachers, students, and parents have relied on Facebook as a primary platform for communication. Students frequently need to install Facebook Messenger or other third-party social media applications to complete academic tasks. The absence of a national social platform in Mongolia has resulted in students spending an excessive amount of time on Facebook.

In response to this issue, Head of the General Department of Education and the Ministry of Education of Mongolia Nyam-Ochir Tumur-Ochir met with representatives of secondary schools in the Capital City to explore the possibility of limiting the use of third-party social network platforms within the school environment. Discussions also centered on the development of a national social network platform to accommodate the communication requirements of teachers, students, and parents.

Upon implementation in secondary schools, this platform will incorporate a verified "KHUR" and "DAN" user authentication system, official pages for schools, class-based group chats, and access to verified digital content. The initiative seeks to safeguard students' digital well-being, foster a child-friendly and secure online environment, and enhance communication within the educational community.
