Ulaanbaatar, April 8, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On April 4, 2025, the poem "Independence" by Hero of Labor of Mongolia and People's Writer Purevdorj Dendev was recited by 3,333 students, all standing in the shape of Mongolia, at Sukhbaatar Square.

In 2016, 3,333 students from the Oyuny Undraa School Complex of Ulaanbaatar recited the poem at Sukhbaatar Square, marking the first occasion. Since then, students have been performing such expressions of patriotism and independence through poetry in the first week of April each year.

To spread the "Independence 3333" program nationwide, this year, the Oyuny Undraa School Complex organized this event so that the poem was simultaneously recited in the central squares of all 21 aimags.

Director of Oyuny Undraa School Complex S. Nerguidavaa emphasized, "Our school's senior students went to 21 aimags in groups. They joined local students to recite the poem "Independence" in the central square of each aimag. This poem embodies Mongolian heritage, mother tongue, and homeland. The goal of the program is to make young people understand the value and meaning of national independence and freedom, to foster spiritual unity across the past, present, and future generations, to instill patriotism, and to pass down the mother tongue to future generations."

During this event, students shared their impressions that reciting the poem "Independence" evokes a sense of love for their homeland.

N. Aminkhuslen, a 6th-grade student at the Oyuny Undraa School of Ulaanbaatar, said that I am very happy to spread the heritage of my country by reciting the poem "Independence". This poem means, "My homeland is so beautiful, please protect it." I memorized the poem in the second grade. When I was little, it was difficult to read it and I did not understand the meaning, but now I feel it more deeply and the whole 19 stanzas have become easy to memorize. This is a very beautiful poem. Students in the first grade are also performing it very well."

B. Dorjsuren, a third-grade student of Oyuny Undraa School, said, "I was very happy with the poem I read with my classmates today. I was very happy that my parents were watching and supporting me while I was reading the poem. It was a beautiful thing that I felt proud of. I memorized the poem "Independence" in about 20 days. "For me, it was difficult to memorize because I had studied English since my childhood, and I also had homework to do."

The event was jointly organized by the Citizens’ Representative Khural of the Capital City and the Oyuny Undraa Secondary School of Ulaanbaatar, and the "Independence 3333" traveling trophy was passed to Khentii aimag.
