Women's Leadership in the Environmental Sector to Be Strengthened

Ulaanbaatar, April 14, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Countries around the world are implementing environmental policies and responding to climate change and desertification through international treaties and collaborative agreements.
Mongolia has been actively participating in these efforts and recently signed the Host Country Agreement for the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, to be held in 2026, which is a significant milestone confirming Mongolia's leadership on the international stage.
On April 13, 2025, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, organized a meeting under the theme "Women's Leadership in Environmental Action." The meeting brought together women ambassadors and leaders of international organizations to share experiences, best practices, and gender-responsive solutions.
At the meeting, Minister Odontuya highlighted that the "Women Environmental Leaders Group," which was initiated by her, serves as a bridge for launching tangible and impactful change, and noted that women's participation is vital for creating sustainable, inclusive, and innovative solutions.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia, the meeting played a key role in forming a unified stance among women leaders ahead of COP17, as well as expanding the scope of joint projects and initiatives.
Representatives from the embassies of 11 countries and 20 international organizations participated in the meeting. The officials voiced support for increasing the involvement of civil society, youth, and local communities, training professionals in the sector, and implementing context-specific activities tailored to local needs.
