Ulaanbaatar, April 22, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Today, April 22, 2025, marks International Mother Earth Day, celebrated under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet.”
This year’s observance highlights the vital role of individuals in restoring and protecting nature through their daily actions. It also commemorates the 55th anniversary of International Mother Earth Day. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness of critical issues threatening our existence, such as climate change, deforestation, environmental pollution, wildlife extinction, and the need for sustainable development.
Initiated by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, the first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970, with the participation of 20 million people. Since then, more than one billion people in 192 countries have come together annually to protect the Earth and the environment.
The power to protect the planet lies within each individual. This year’s Earth Day calls for bold decisions and collective efforts, emphasizing that real change begins with individuals who show care, take action, and inspire others, beyond what governments or large organizations can do alone. Simple everyday choices such as planting trees, eliminating waste, choosing environmentally friendly food, clothing, or vehicles can all make a significant difference.
In connection with this, initiatives and actions focused on environmental protection and sustainable development are being launched around the world. The British Embassy in Mongolia expressed support for the protection of snow leopards and called for environmental conservation by posting on the X (Twitter) platform about contributing to the protection of nature and the promotion of renewable energy.
