Secretary-General of UN World Tourism Organization to Pay an Official Visit to Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, May 1, 2025 /MONTSAME/. At the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Spain on April 28-30, 2025.
During the official visit, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh visited the headquarters of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Madrid, the Kingdom of Spain, and held a meeting with Secretary-General of UNWTO Zurab Pololikashvili.
Foreign Minister Battsetseg emphasized that Mongolia is working to develop tourism as a key sector crucial to the Mongolian economy. The Foreign Minister of Mongolia presented the Government of Mongolia's current objectives and activities in tourism development and introduced the initiatives implemented under the “Years to Visit Mongolia” Initiative. The two sides held a detailed discussion on the international promotion of the "Go Mongolia" National Brand. Foreign Minister Battsetseg extended an invitation to UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili to pay an official visit to Mongolia in the near future. The two sides agreed to organize a meeting between the Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth of Mongolia and the UNWTO Secretary-General to discuss a wide range of opportunities and priorities in cooperation.
UNWTO (UN Tourism) will provide professional guidance and work with Mongolia to attract investment and enhance tourism infrastructure. Furthermore, joint promotional events will be organized to highlight Mongolia’s rich history, culture, and tourism potential at major international conferences and forums hosted by UN Tourism. As part of these collaborative efforts, the 19th UN Tourism Asia-Pacific Executive Training Programme on Tourism Policy and Strategy will be held in Ulaanbaatar from May 19–22, 2025. Over 20 representatives from the Asia-Pacific region will participate.
The 19th UN Tourism Asia-Pacific Executive Training Programme will focus on improving Mongolia’s sustainable tourism, promoting experience sharing, and discussing tourism policy and strategic development in line with global practices.
