Foreign Minister of Mongolia Pays Courtesy Call on the President and Speaker of Parliament of Iceland

Ulaanbaatar, May 05, 2025 /MONTSAME/. At the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh paid an official visit to Iceland on May 2-3, 2025.


On May 2, 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh paid a courtesy call on President of Iceland Halla Tómasdóttir. 


Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh conveyed the greetings of President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa to President of Iceland Halla Tómasdóttir and extended an invitation to pay a State Visit to Mongolia.



Foreign Minister Battsetseg highlighted the tangible opportunities for cooperation in energy, light industry, environment, tourism, and particularly in economy and trade within the framework of Mongolia’s Third Neighbor Policy. She also expressed confidence that the President of Iceland would participate as a Guest of Honor at the World Women Entrepreneurs’ Forum, to be held in Mongolia in late August under the auspices of the President of Mongolia.


During the official visit to Iceland, Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh also paid a courtesy call on Þórunn Sveinbjarnardóttir, Speaker of the Althing of Iceland. Foreign Minister Battsetseg noted the vast potential for expanding Mongolia–Iceland relations, based on shared values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, across various socio-economic sectors. In particular, she expressed interest in enhancing cooperation with Iceland in its leading sectors, such as tourism and renewable energy.



Speaker of the Icelandic Parliament Þórunn Sveinbjarnardóttir expressed confidence that the long-lasting friendly relations between Mongolia and Iceland would continue to expand through the efforts of the two countries. The Speaker also affirmed commitment to enhancing cooperation between the legislative bodies of Mongolia and Iceland. 


Moreover, Foreign Minister Battsetseg met with members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Security of the Parliament and exchanged views on international relations, outlining the priorities of Mongolia’s foreign policy.
