Ulaanbaatar, May 7, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The National University of Mongolia (NUM), in collaboration with the British Council, opened “IELTS CENTRE–NUM” on May 7, 2025.
In 2024, NUM and the British Council signed an Agreement to establish a centre for English language proficiency testing. In accordance with this Agreement, preparatory activities such as training academic and technical personnel and installing required equipment have been carried out, and the centre is now operational.
In this regard, Dashdavaa Vanchinsuren, Lecturer at the School of Arts and Sciences of NUM and Head of “IELTS CENTRE–NUM,” provided the following information:
What activities will be carried out at the Centre?
Many are familiar with IELTS, or the International English Language Testing System. Our Centre will administer both the Academic and General Training modules of IELTS in digital format every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The Centre is equipped with modern technology and offers a clean, quiet, and comfortable testing environment. A maximum of 20 candidates may take the test simultaneously. IELTS assesses four core language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. A key feature of the Centre is the “One Skill Retake” option, which allows candidates to retake only the section in which they received a low score, offering an opportunity to improve their overall result. Test results are issued within 1 to 5 days.
In what ways does “IELTS CENTRE–NUM” differ from other centres offering similar services?
There are many centres that offer IELTS services, but only a few are officially authorized. Our Centre operates under the National University of Mongolia and is distinguished by its compliance with international requirements. Furthermore, faculty members and professors of NUM will conduct preparatory courses and score improvement courses for IELTS at the Centre.
“IELTS CENTRE–NUM” officially began administering “IELTS” last month. How many individuals have participated, and what were the outcomes?
We successfully conducted three trial tests. Currently, we are in the process of scheduling upcoming test dates. As IELTS is an internationally recognized test, participation is open to all individuals, including foreign nationals. IELTS scores are accepted by all domestic and foreign institutions of higher education. Students with high international test scores may qualify for scholarships abroad or apply those scores towards the General Entrance Exam.
