“Danshig Naadam - Khuree Tsam 2025” to Be Held on June 27-29

Ulaanbaatar, June 10, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The "Danshig Naadam - Khuree Tsam 2025," a unique cultural and religious festival of the Mongols, will be celebrated on June 27-29, 2025, at Khui Doloon Khudag on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar City.


This year's "Danshig Naadam - Khuree Tsam" is jointly organized by the Governor's Office of the Capital City of Mongolia, the Ulaanbaatar City Tourism Department, and the Gandantegchinlen Monastery. The Festival will begin with worship ceremonies of the four Sacred Mountains surrounding the Capital City, which are Bogdkhaan, Songinokhairkhan, Chingeltei, and Bayanzurkh Mountains, where monasteries in Ulaanbaatar will perform rituals calling for the welfare of the people.


In addition to Tsam Dance, the main feature of Danshig Naadam, various religious and cultural events will be held during the Festival, including Torma Making Competition, the competition of unzad and golch lamas (chanting masters and assistant chanting masters), and the chanting of Buddha teachings. Moreover, horse racing, traditional Mongol wrestling and archery, traditional knuckle-bone shooting competition, and the bone-breaking contest, a fair of small and medium enterprises, a display of traditional Mongol attire, and art performances will take place.




The Danshig Naadam, which preserves Mongol culture, religious rituals, and heritage, is a major religious and cultural event in Mongolia, dating back to 1639, when the Undur Gegeen Zanabazar was enthroned as the First Bogd Javzandamba Khutagt, the Spiritual Leader of the Mongols. Tsam Dance is a part of Five Ordinary Sciences of Buddhism and more than 120 Tsam dancers, disguised as Vajrapani, the White Old Man, the Lords of the Four Sacred Mountains surrounding the capital, the Khangardi, the Pig, the Dog, the Blue Old Man, and other characters, adorn themselves with elaborate costumes and ornaments and express inner meditation through the dancing gestures or movements of their hands, feet, and bodies, and eloquently demonstrate the movements of suppressing and overcoming harmful enemies and evil spirits.
